Olamide’s
rather disheartening announcement came as a rude shock to his fans and
followers who had – barely four hours earlier – gladly joined the 28
year Nigerian music industry heavyweight to celebrate his son, Batifeori
Maximiliano Adedeji’s third birthday and pour out profound wishes of
goodwill, after the superstar penned a birthday message to his son,
which read:
“Happy birthday Batifèori Maximiliano Adedeji more life young King from Dad, your best pal.”
Fans
of the uncrowned king of the streets would recall that 2018 – though
barely one month old at the time – had already been a rollercoaster ride
of sorts for the phenomenal entertainer, who kicked off the year with a
resounding bang by dropping his rave of the moment, ‘Science Student’.
The
firecracker – which got virtually every lover of Olamide’s musical
flavour updating their rusty Shaku Shaku skills (if they had any to
begin with) and making videos on social media to show off their dope
dance steps – was however met with significant backlash from members of
the public who felt the song’s lyrical content promoted substance abuse,
and a consequent plea for the song to be banned.
Despite
Olamide’s efforts to set the record straight, the NBC – in agreement
with these disapproving sentiments – recently declared ‘Science Student’
unfit for broadcast by Nigerian radio stations, promising to sanction
defaulters accordingly.
It
is against this backdrop that Olamide, who was just recently marking
his son’s birthday anniversary is now bereaved, and we can only imagine
the mix of emotions he must be passing through at this time.
While
we are yet to ascertain late Alhaja Adedeji’s cause of death and when
her remains will be laid to rest, we commiserate with Olamide, and
earnestly wish him and his family the fortitude to bear this irreparable
loss.
